NHCS Staff Accounts

CLASS Project, uses Staff UID numbers instead of separate library cards. With their CLASS Project account, all NHCS staff can:

  • Access NHCPL research databases

  • Borrow digital materials such as e-books, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines

  • Borrow up to 2 print books, audiobooks, or magazines at a time (no DVDs or music CDs)

  • There are no overdue fines or fees for CLASS Project accounts.

Staff are still encouraged to visit the library to obtain a traditional library card with extended borrowing privileges. In addition, teachers may visit the library to obtain Educator Cards.

Support for Educators

  • Librarians can provide information literacy trainings for professional development credits.
  • This can be done onsite as well as in the library.

Educator Cards

To assist educators in providing materials for students being educated in New Hanover County, the library offers free Educator library cards to teachers, childcare providers, and homeschool families providing education to children in New Hanover County.

About Educator Cards

  • These cards are separate from your personal NHCPL card.
  • The Educator card offers expanded availability of library materials for classroom use, with an extended checkout limit and checkout period (up to 50 items, checked out for 6 weeks). Items may be renewed once.
  • To apply for an Educator card at any NHCPL location, the teacher should bring a photo ID, proof of mailing address, and verification of current status as an educator in New Hanover County.

Can our librarians’ expertise help you by selecting some books for use with a class or group?

  • Are you planning a theme or topic for which you would like a selection of age-appropriate books?
  • Use NHCPL's Teacher Request Form to allow the Children's Services staff select items for you, pull them, and have them ready at any NHCPL location for a quick pick up.
  • If you have a few specific titles which you would like to receive as part of your selection, include those titles in your request and we’ll do our best to find them for you.
  • Please allow a minimum of 7 days' advance notice so that we may put together the best collection possible for you.

Do you need only specific titles from a curriculum list or other source?

  • Place a request for each title through the library's online catalog.
  • Library staff will pull all available titles for you and route them to your selected pickup location.
  • You can also create your curriculum lists ahead of time or save them for future use.  Here’s how to create and save lists!
