Child Custody

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts a Custody and Visitation Clinic for the Legal Aid of North Carolina the second Tuesday of every other month. During the clinic, you will learn the process for handling custody mediation and forms needed to file for custody or visitation in North Carolina. At the end of the program, a question and answer period will allow anyone to ask general questions about the procedure. An attorney will NOT be physically present.

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts a Divorce Clinic for the Legal Aid of North Carolina on the 3rd Thursday of the month. During the clinic, information on how to fill out the divorce forms will be provided and information on the process will be discussed. There will be a question and answer period where general questions can be asked. An attorney will NOT be physically present.

Registration is required to attend the divorce clinic. To register, visit the library's calendar or call the reference desk at 910-798-6301.

Please keep in mind that this clinic is for people who want a simple divorce. If you are dealing with issues of property division or spousal support, you should seek legal counsel.

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts an Employee Rights Clinic for the Legal Aid of North Carolina the second Thursday of every month. The Employee Rights clinic will address the rights of employees under North Carolina law and cover topics such as employment at will, right to work, employment discrimination, and unemployment benefits. At the end of the program, a question and answer period will allow anyone to ask general questions about the procedure. An attorney will NOT be physically present.

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts Criminal Record Expungement Clinics for the Legal Aid of North Carolina on the first Tuesday of the month. During the clinic, a video will be shown explaining the eligibility requirements for receiving an expunction and the process to get your criminal record expunged.

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts a Health Care Power of Attorney and Living Will Clinic for the Legal Aid of North Carolina the fourth Tuesday of the first month in every quarter. During the clinic, you will learn the process for filling our the various forms to appoint someone to act as your legal representative and to complete a living will in North Carolina. At the end of the video, a question and answer period will allow anyone to ask general questions about the procedures. An attorney will NOT be physically present.

The New Hanover County Public Library hosts a Tenants Rights clinic for the Legal Aid of North Carolina on the fourth Thursday of the month. During the clinic, a video providing information on the landlords responsibilities and your rights as a tenant will be played. There will be a question and answer period at the end of the video, where general questions can be asked. An attorney will NOT be physically present.
